Frequently asked

Is the word count accurate for other languages?

Yes for any language that separates words with whitespace. Chinese, Japanese, and Thai use character-based counting instead — you should read the "Characters" number for those.

How is reading time calculated?

We assume an average adult reading speed of 200 words per minute and speaking pace of 130 words per minute. These are conservative defaults used by publishing tools.

Does my text leave the page?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. You can use it offline once the page has loaded.
